Oil Drilling in Arctic Wildlife Refuge

I have some very bad news - you may have already heard. They've voted to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling....a vote of 51 to 49 I'm told. I am in deep mourning.

My initial response was livid rage (or as much as Jewell is capable of). The American people have told them over and over that we don't want this. But I guess the will of the American people no longer governs what Congress decides - special interest groups do. Guess it's not enough that Bush rapes Iraq - he has to rape us, too. And they claim they're Christians.

If they only raised gas mileage in cars and trucks to what it was in the 80's - that would more than account for any oil in the NAWR. OR...if they only explored alternative fuels. But no! They insist on devastation and destruction of a REFUGE. Does that word have no meaning anymore?!?

They claim they now know how to pollute and destroy less than they used to. I don't believe them. I mean really! Their track record is ZIP, 0, nada! Exxon has YET to pay for the Valdez disaster over 15 years ago.

I'm finding solace in Rev 11:18, "The time has come for judging the dead.....and for destroying those who destroy the earth." I find comfort in this for two major reasons: 1) God will exact judgment upon those who cause such destruction; and 2) God already knew this earth would be
destroyed. It's exceptionally hard for me to watch it, but the Bible says it will happen. The joy comes in Rev 21 when God reveals a new heaven and a new earth; and also in Matthew 5:5 where Jesus promises the meek will inherit the earth.

This is my highest motivation for taking the photos I take. To quote from Edward Abbey, "It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it is still there. So get out there...."

Spending too much time indoors...
Jewell
